Jose Mourinho insists that Manchester United will go for the win against Manchester City on Sunday
Jose Mourinho has insisted that Manchester United will go for the victory in Sunday’s derby showdown with Manchester City.
The Red Devils are preparing to welcome their bitter local rivals to Old Trafford this weekend as they look to try and get themselves back into the title race.
Mourinho’s men already find themselves eight points behind leaders Manchester City and know that a defeat by Pep Guardiola’s men would leave them 11 points behind the leaders heading into the hectic festive period in the Premier League.
Manchester United will be without the suspended Paul Pogba after the key midfielder was sent off during the 3-1 win over Arsenal at The Emirates last weekend.
Much has been made about how Manchester United are set to approach the game, given that they will be without one of their key players.
However, Mourinho has hinted that the Red Devils will indeed go for the victory against their bitter local rivals.
Speaking at his news conference before the game on Friday afternoon, Mourinho said: “I think you all want to know how we are going to play.
“Everyone connected with football professionally or as a fan has those questions: Who do we play? Who is going to play? How are we going to try to play? I’m not going to tell.
“Even the players, they do not know who is going to play. We are working on principles of play. I want every player to be connected with it and ready for it.
“With the problems we have with absences it is important that other players are ready to play or be on the bench and come on and to have different roles than they are used to.
“So the work was much more global than the specificity of the 11 players who are going to start. I don’t want us to feel any kind of pressure.
“I want us to feel it as a match like we are going to have another one or two days later against Bournemouth.
“We want to win, we want to play well, we are going to try and let’s see the direction of the game.”
Manchester United, who finished sixth last term, are aiming to win the Premier League title this season for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson’s final campaign in charge in 2012-13.
