Rio Ferdinand slammed Manchester United for a below-par performance after they slumped to a 2-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Wednesday night at Wembley.

Christian Eriksen sent the Lilywhite on their way towards victory when he scored in just the 11th second of the first half.

A Phil Jones own-goal then made it 2-0 to the home side in the first half to heap further misery on the visitors.

Spurs thoroughly outplayed the Red Devils as they claimed all three points against Jose Mourinho’s men in style.

And former Manchester United defender Ferdinand was not at all impressed by what he saw from his old team in Wednesday night’s game.

Speaking to BT Sport, Ferdinand said: “The first couple of seconds in the game really set the tone.

“They were very sloppy and defensively sloppy on the ball.

“They didn’t get up against any players in midfield – they were absolutely dominated in midfield. They got their just deserves today.”

The result left Tottenham in fifth place and two points behind fourth-placed Chelsea as the race for Champions League qualification hots up.

Manchester United must now dust themselves down as they look to try and get back to winning ways in the Premier League when they host Huddersfield Town at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Devils are now 15 points behind Manchester City in the Premier League table and in second place.
