Alan Shearer has claimed that Manchester United were “woeful” going forwards in their 1-0 defeat by Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Red Devils headed into the game on the south coast looking to make it back to back wins in the Premier League but they struggled to get going against Eddie Howe’s men.

Manchester United fell behind in the 45th minute at the Vitality Stadium as Josh King netted the only goal of the game for the hosts.

The Red Devils struggled going forwards throughout the game and they were unable to find an equaliser as they slumped to their fourth defeat of the season in the top flight.

The loss has heaped further pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with Manchester United currently in 10th place in the Premier League table after 11 games of the new campaign.

And England legend Shearer was not at all impressed by what he saw from Manchester United’s attacking players on Saturday afternoon.

Speaking on Match of the Day, Shearer said of Man United’s performance: “I liked the first five minutes and the last five minutes where they at least showed a little bit of urgency.

“I thought they were woeful going forward.

“They were chasing the game, particularly in the second half.

“You’ve got [Anthony] Martial and [Marcus] Rashford, both who you’re looking at to get you back into the game, and neither were in the box [on occasions], they can’t get the ball into the box because there’s nobody in the box.

“That made it easier for Bournemouth than it needed to be.”

Manchester United will aim to get back to winning ways in the Premier League when they take on Brighton and Hove Albion at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

Before that, they will host Partizan Belgrade in the Europa League on Thursday night.
