Alexis Sanchez has taken to social media to issue a heartfelt apology for his disappointing season in a Manchester United shirt.

The Chile international has struggled for both form and fitness this term after having signed for the Red Devils from Arsenal back in January 2018.

Sanchez was limited to just nine Premier League stars this season for the Red Devils as he struggled to hold down a regular starting spot and was also sideline due to injury for much of the campaign.

The 30-year-old scored one goal and made three assists in the Premier League for the Red Devils as he endured a season to forget at Old Trafford.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for the former Arsenal star as the summer transfer window draws nearer.

However, the Chilean took the time to send a personal message to Manchester United fans after the disappointment of their 2-0 home loss to Cardiff City on Sunday.

Sanchez posted the photo below on his personal Instagram account and wrote the caption: “It was a very tough season…the fan (sic) are the ones who deserve an apology as they always support you no matter what happens.

“Personally, I didn’t perform as much as I was expecting because of unpredictable injuries. Press and people were speculating of things that were not even true. I was always a professional in all aspects.

“I apologise to the fans for not being able to achieve our goals, Nevertheless we are Manchester United!

“Players and staff are questioning if we were doing the right thing and if we were giving our best for this football shirt.

“I’m certain that Manchester United one day will return to be the club, as it was in the old days with Mr. Alex Ferguson.”

Manchester United ended up in sixth place in the Premier League table as they missed out on Champions League qualification and finished without a trophy for the second season running.
