Mesut Ozil should leave Arsenal to sign for Manchester United in January so that Jose Mourinho can help him rediscover his best form, according to Claude Makelele.
The 29-year-old’s future has been a relentless source of speculation in recent months after both he and Alexis Sanchez entered into the final 12 months of their contracts at The Emirates.
Reports in the British media have linked Ozil with a surprise move to Old Trafford to link up with his former Real Madrid boss Mourinho.
Ozil has come in for criticism for his below-par displays for Arsenal in recent weeks, with the Gunners having lost three of their opening eight Premier League games.
And former Chelsea midfielder Makelele believes that Mourinho could be the right man to get the best out of Ozil again should they link up at Manchester United.
Speaking to beIN Sports, Makelele said: “When you talk about the top players you want them to be in a good team and always putting in a performance the way you want.
“It would be good for him I think if he were to move. He has been for a long time.
“I think maybe Jose Mourinho would use him better and would make him a success at Manchester United for sure.”
Ozil will be hoping to feature for Arsenal when the Gunners return to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon with a trip to Goodison Park to take on Everton.
The north London side are currently nine points behind leaders Manchester City in the Premier League table as they look to keep themselves in the title race.
