Dimitar Berbatov urges Man United to sign Juventus attacker
Dimitar Berbatov says Mario Mandzukic would be a top signing for Man United in January
Dimitar Berbatov has urged Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to make a move to sign Mario Mandzukic in the January transfer window.
The Croatia striker has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks as the countdown to the mid-season transfer window continues.
Manchester United are believed to be on the lookout for a number of new signings following their stuttering start to the new season.
Indeed, the Red Devils are currently down in 12th place in the Premier League table and a staggering 15 points behind leaders Liverpool FC after just eight games.
It has been Manchester United’s worst start to a Premier League season for 30 years and it is inevitable that the Red Devils will be heavily linked with some big names in the January window.
And former Manchester United star Berbatov has urged Solskjaer to make a move to land Croatia striker Mandzukic in January.
Speaking in an interview quoted by Metro, Berbatov said: “They have the talent in the young players but at the same time you need someone like Mandzukic
“I think he is a really good football player and he hasn’t played before in England, but I hope if he comes he can straight away get into the rhythm of the Premier League.
“Zlatan Ibrahimovic was 34 years old when he signed for United and he didn’t have any problems.
“Mandzukic is a similar age and hope he could have the same impact if he signs.
“I think his age is a good thing, (Anthony) Martial, (Marcus) Rashford and (Mason) Greenwood are all young players so they need that time and assurance that they don’t need to worry and they can learn from the experience of Mandzukic.”
Manchester United will return to Premier League action after the international break when they take on Liverpool FC at Anfield on Sunday 20 October.
The Red Devils are looking to become the first team to take points off Jurgen Klopp’s men following their incredible start to the new campaign.
