Jamie Carragher claims Manchester United were just about worthy winners after their 2-1 win over Chelsea FC
Jamie Carragher claimed that Manchester United “just” deserved to beat Chelsea FC after the Red Devils’ 2-1 win over the Blues at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday.
Chelsea FC started the brighter and took the lead in the first half when Willian drilled home a solid finish.
However, their lead did not last too long as Romelu Lukaku netted against his former club before half-time to make it 1-1 at the break.
And Jesse Lingard came off the bench in the second half to make a big impact as he headed home Lukaku’s cross to secure the three points for Jose Mourinho’s men.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Carragher said: “I think just [Man United deserved to win].
“I felt Chelsea were the best team in the first half and Man United tried to nullify Chelsea.
“They man marked Hazard and Willian, who I thought was superb. But in the second half [Chelsea] never seemed to go for the game.
“Man United didn’t change and ended up grinding out a result.”
The win lifted Manchester United up into second place in the Premier League table as the race for Champions League qualification hots up.
Chelsea FC, meanwhile, find themselves under intense pressure after dropping out of the top four to leave them in fifth place, ahead of their crunch clash against Manchester City at The Etihad next weekend.
Manchester United, meanwhile, do not return to Premier League action again until their trip to Crystal Palace in the top flight on Monday week, leaving Jose Mourinho’s men with a full week to prepare for the game in south London.
