Daniel James has admitted that it was a “dream come true” to score on his Premier League debut for Manchester United in Sunday’s 4-0 win over Chelsea FC.

The Wales international signed for the Red Devils at the start of the summer transfer window and he will be hoping to play a key role at Old Trafford this season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

James came on in the second half of the Red Devils’ Premier League opener at Old Trafford and scored the home side’s fourth goal to cap a memorable opening-weekend win for his side.

And the 21-year-old has admitted that Sunday’s game was an incredible experience for him as a young midfielder.

Speaking to Manchester United’s website after the game, James said: “For me it has not settled in yet – to come on, to score at a place like this, to make my debut, it is the first time I have played here, so to score is a dream come true.“

He continued: “As I took the touch, some people would say it is a dummy. But the ball got away from me a bit, thankfully I think the defender would have blocked it without that, but as soon as I struck it the ball went into the back of the net and was pure emotion for me. I am delighted.

“It [the debut] lived up to my expectations, definitely. The atmosphere when I came on was amazing. I think the fans were amazing. They stuck with us throughout.

“It has been shown everywhere we went on pre-seasons, the fans have been amazing and then again here. To score here is a dream come true.”

James was one of three new signings at Old Trafford this summer as the Red Devils also brought in Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire.

Manchester United will return to Premier League action on Monday night when they travel to Wolves in the top flight.

Solskjaer’s side will have their sights firmly set on securing a top four finish this season after they ended up sixth and without a trophy last term.
