David De Gea has insisted that he is happy at Manchester United as he continues to be linked with a possible move away from Old Trafford.

The Spanish goalkeeper has earned a reputation as one of world football’s top shot stoppers since his move to Old Trafford from Atletico Madrid when Sir Alex Ferguson was still in charge back in 2011.

De Gea’s future has been the source of much speculation over the years, and the shot-stopper was on the verge of a move to Real Madrid in the summer of 2015 before the switch fell through at the final hour.

It remains to be seen whether there will be fresh interest from Real Madrid in signing the Spain international in the summer transfer window.

However, De Gea himself has now appeared to indicate that he is happy at Manchester United for the time being.

De Gea is quoted as saying by Metro: “Time flies by so quickly. I’ve been here seven years and I am happy.

“A lot has happened to me – some very good, some not so good, – but to be honest I am just really happy.

“I feel like an important player in the dressing room. I am one of the oldest in the team.

“It makes me happy to see the younger players coming through – and trying to make United big.”

De Gea will be expecting to start in goal for the Red Devils when they take on Sevilla in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 clash on Wednesday night in Spain.

The Red Devils head into the game on the back of their 2-0 win over Huddersfield in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Saturday evening.
