Gary Neville: 26-year-old is the standout world-class player in Man United team
Gary Neville lavishes praise on David De Gea following his sparkling performance for Man United against Liverpool
Gary Neville believes that David De Gea is the “standout” world-class player in the Manchester United team at the moment.
The Spanish shot-stopper produced another fine display against Liverpool during the Red Devils’ goalless draw with the Merseyside outfit at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.
De Gea earned huge amounts of praise for his fine save to deny Joel Matip in the first half at Anfield as Jose Mourinho’s men earned a point from their Premier League clash against the Reds.
The 26-year-old has developed into one of the finest goalkeepers in the world since his arrival at Manchester United from Atletico Madrid back in 2011.
And former Manchester United defender Neville believes that De Gea is the top player in the Red Devils team on current form.
Speaking on Sky Sports after Saturday’s draw, Neville said: I don’t think you can win this league without a great goalkeeper.
“David de Gea is the standout world-class player in Manchester United’s team by a street. He’s wonderful, he really is.”
De Gea will be expecting to feature for Manchester United when the Red Devils return to Champions League action on Wednesday night with a trip to Portugal to take on Benfica.
The Red Devils have won both of their opening European games so far this season against Basel and CSKA Moscow.
Mourinho led Manchester United to both the Europa League and League Cup trophies last season in his first campaign in charge.
