Gary Neville sends message to Man United fans about summer signing
Gary Neville reflects on Romelu Lukaku's performance for Manchester United against Liverpool FC
Gary Neville believes that Romelu Lukaku has gone some way towards proving his critics wrong with his recent performances for Manchester United.
The Belgian striker played a key role in helping Manchester United take the lead during their 2-1 victory over Liverpool FC at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon when he set up Marcus Rashford for the opener in the Premier League clash.
Rashford then soon doubled the home side’s lead to put the Red Devils in control, and although Eric Bailly scored an own goal in the second half to set up a tense finale, Manchester United held on to claim all three points.
Lukaku put in a solid shift against Liverpool FC and his strong performance came after he also helped Manchester United claim a 2-1 win over Chelsea FC at Old Trafford recently.
And former Manchester United defender Neville believes that Lukaku deserves credit for the way he performed against Liverpool FC on Saturday.
Speaking during Sky Sports‘ coverage of the came, Neville said: “We’ve quite often talked about Romelu Lukaku’s performances in big matches and not turning up.
“But what he’s done today, he’s made something out of nothing with those long balls up to him.
“That’s what he has to do as a centre-forward in the big matches, win that first ball. And Marcus Rashford profited.”
Manchester United now turn their attentions back towards Premier League affairs and their home clash against Sevilla on Tuesday night.
The Red Devils played out a goalless draw in Spain in the first leg of the last 16 tie last month.
