Manchester United want to sign Ivan Rakitic from FC Barcelona to replace Paul Pogba this summer, according to reports in Spain.
Spanish outlet Sport, as quoted by Metro, is reporting that the Red Devils are keen on a move to bring the Croatia international to Old Trafford as they look to strengthen their squad.
The same story says that Pogba “has made it clear” that he wants to leave Old Trafford this summer as the speculation about the World Cup winner continues.
According to the same article, FC Barcelona are set to sell more than one high-profile player this summer as they look to raise funds for the signings of Antoine Griezmann and Neymar.
It is claimed in the same story that Ole Gunner Solskjaer is “uneasy” about the Pogba situation at Old Trafford and has earmarked Rakitic, 31, as the ideal replacement for the midfielder should the Frenchman leave.
The same story says that Manchester United have already held talks with FC Barcelona about the potential signings of Rakitic and French defender Samuel Umtiti.
It is also claimed that Manchester United have made an opening offer of €35m (£30.5m) for Rakitic but the bid was considered “totally inadequate” by FC Barcelona.
