‘Embarrassing’: BBC Sport pundit delivers damning verdict on Man United display

Jermaine Jenas gives his thoughts on Man United's 2-2 draw with Aston Villa on Sunday

Jermaine Jenas has criticised Manchester United’s attacking duo of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford in the wake of the 2-2 draw with Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

The Red Devils were held to a frustrating home draw in front of their fans at Old Trafford as both Rashford and Martial drew blanks at Old Trafford.

The result means that Manchester United have only managed to win four out of their 14 games in the Premier League this season, and it left them languishing down in ninth place in the table.

Manchester United enjoyed 62 per cent of possession but only managed six shots on target against the Villains at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

And former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jenas was clearly not particularly impressed by what he saw from Manchester United’s attacking players on Sunday.

Speaking on Match of the Day 2, Jenas said: “What worried me today was the complete lack of movement in their team, everyone was just stale and stuck in their positions.

“They were really sloppy in that final third. They have to find a way to get themselves in that six yard box, because it is happening too often. Rashford was not even looking at the game until it is too late.

“You know what Dan James will do, get in that six yard box. You have the three guys you want to score goals – Rashford, Lingard and Martial – nowhere near it, not even close. Manchester United have not even played well today and they have still created all these opportunities where people aren’t even getting close.

“It is a little bit embarrassing. You have a manager on the side-lines who would probably have scored a hat-trick today in what was probably one of the worst performances he has seen from United.

“It was just stale and there was no direction to what they were doing today.”

Manchester United will aim to return to winning ways in the Premier League when they host Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

Jose Mourinho is preparing for a return to Old Trafford almost exactly a year after he was sacked by the Red Devils and Solskjaer brought in as his replacement.
