Jose Mourinho has his say on Chelsea's Premier League title chances this season
Jose Mourinho says Chelsea are the favourites to win the Premier League title this season ahead of his Manchester United side.
The Blues are looking to defend their top-flight crown after they won the title in style in Antonio Conte’s first campaign in charge at the club.
However, Chelsea endured a disastrous start to the new campaign last weekend when they were reduced to nine men and were beaten by Burnley at Stamford Bridge.
Manchester United, meanwhile, kicked off their campaign with a thumping 4-0 victory over West Ham United at Old Trafford.
Attentions will now be turned to whether Manchester United will be able to mount a serious title challenge this season after their disappointing sixth-placed finish last term.
But Mourinho has insisted that Chelsea are the favourites to win the trophy this term because they are the defending champions.
Speaking at a news conference at Carrington on Friday, Mourinho said: “For me the favourite is the champion – always.
“It doesn’t mean you are going to win it again, but I think it is the stamp that you have when you are champion.
“It is that the next season you are the favourite. I just want to think, as I said before West Ham, that we go to every match and we only think about winning that match.
“I don’t go to any match this season thinking that the opponent is better than us. We are not going into any match thinking that way.
“We go into every match trying to win. If we win, we win. If we don’t win, we don’t win.”
Manchester United are preparing for a return to the Champions League this season after Mourinho led the Red Devils to Europa League glory last term.
Chelsea will also compete in the group stage next month after having missed out on a spot in Europe last season.
