Jose Mourinho sends worrying message to Man United fans about Marcus Rashford
Jose Mourinho confirms that Marcus Rashford picked up an undisclosed injury while on international duty with England
Jose Mourinho has revealed that Marcus Rashford is carrying an injury picked up while on international duty with England.
The teenager only came on as a second-half substitute during Manchester United’s goalless draw with Liverpool at Anfield in the Premier League on Saturday lunchtime.
Mourinho opted to start Anthony Martial ahead of Rashford, prompting many to question why the Portuguese coach did not choose the England star from the off considering his brilliant form this season.
However, the Red Devils boss has confirmed that Rashford suffered an injury while on international duty with England, along with Manchester United defender Eric Bailly, although he did not reveal the extent of the problems for both players.
Speaking to Sky Sports after Saturday’s game, Manchester United boss Mourinho said: “I don’t think we have many options.
“Fellaini was injured with the national team, Bailly was injured with the national team and Rashford was injured with the national team. We don’t have many options.
“I never complain about that. I was just mentioning it to you because the next question is maybe why is Rashford not playing? Why is Bailly not even on the bench?
“But, OK, since the moment we know the players we have available, we thought about the match and we thought about our options and we made these decisions.”
Manchester United are preparing to return to Champions League action on Wednesday night with a crunch clash against Benfica in Portugal.
The Red Devils have made a solid start in Europe so far this season, having won both of their opening group games against Basel and CSKA Moscow.
Manchester United won both the Europa League and League Cup last season in what was Mourinho’s first campaign in charge.
