Juan Mata congratulates Huddersfield for their performance against Man United at the weekend
Juan Mata has congratulated Huddersfield for being the better team after Manchester United’s shock 2-1 loss to the newly-promoted side on Saturday.
Jose Mourinho’s men headed into the game in fine form and after having not lost a match in the Premier League this season.
However, the Red Devils found themselves 2-0 down to Huddersfield and although Marcus Rashford was able to pull a goal back for Mourinho’s side, they couldn’t find an equaliser as they lost their first Premier League defeat of the season.
Manchester United had been earning plenty of praise for their strong performances after their solid start to the season under Mourinho.
However, Spain international Mata had no choice but to admit that Huddersfield were simply the better team and that they deserved the three points last weekend.
Writing in his personal blog, Mata said: “We were on a very positive run of results but, this weekend, we didn’t play a good game and we came home with no points.
“We knew this moment would arrive sooner or later, although that’s something you never wish for, of course.
“Now, it’s time to learn from mistakes and keep going, as we always do, showing that the team sticks together when things don’t go so well, which is when we need it most.
“Since the European Super Cup defeat last summer, we’ve been performing really well against all kind of opponents. On Saturday, though, Huddersfield played their cards better than us and took all three points.
“All we can do now is congratulate them and move on. This is a not a sprint, but a marathon and there is still a long way to go.”
Manchester United return to Premier League action next weekend when they host Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford looking to get back to winning ways on Sunday.
Mourinho is aiming to become the first manager to lead Manchester United to the Premier League title since their final triumph under Sir Alex Ferguson back in 2013.
The Red Devils finished sixth in the table last term.
