Joel Matip has praised David De Gea for his “brilliant” save in Manchester United’s goalless draw at Liverpool last weekend.

The Merseyside outfit were held to a frustrating goalless draw with the Red Devils in the Premier League in Saturday’s early kick-off.

Matip had the home side’s best chance of the Premier League clash when his close-range effort was miraculously kept out of the Manchester United net by the Spanish goalkeeper.

Liverpool peppered the Red Devils goal with 20 shots but De Gea managed to keep his seventh clean sheet of the 2017-18 season.

Manchester United are seven points clear of Liverpool in the Premier League title race as both clubs lost ground on current leaders Manchester City.

Liverpool defender Matip admitted that De Gea pulled off a stunning save to deny the Cameroon centre-half at Anfield.

“I have to score, but he saved it really brilliantly,” Matip told Liverpool’s website. “Opportunities like this we have to use and it was a little bit unlucky and frustrating.”

Matip helped Liverpool to keep just their third clean sheet of the season in a goalless draw with Manchester United.

The African defender moved to Liverpool in a free transfer from Bundesliga outfit Schalke 04 in the 2016 summer transfer window.

Liverpool finished in fourth place in the Premier League table to secure a return to the Champions League for the first time since 2014.
