David De Gea is better saving the ball with his feet than Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel, according to Garth Crooks.
The Spain international produced a world class save with his feet from close range in the first half when Joel Matip looked destined to break the deadlock at Anfield.
De Gea’s goal was peppered with 20 shots on his goal but Liverpool were denied a winner following a dominant performance against Jose Mourinho’s side.
The Manchester United shot stopper has proven very adept at using his feet to keep the ball out during his spell between the sticks at Old Trafford.
Indeed, De Gea was named the club’s player of the season for three successive years to underline his importance to the Red Devils under David Moyes and Louis van Gaal.
Former Spurs forward Crooks can only remember one goalkeeper better at saving the ball with his feet than De Gea.
“Former United keeper Peter Schmeichel used his feet better than most, but the greatest of them all must have been Pat Jennings,” Crooks told BBC Sport.
“The former Northern Ireland international was a master at keeping the ball out of the net with judicious use of his feet. De Gea is a close second, and the only reason United got a point at Anfield.”
Manchester United signed De Gea in a £19m deal from Atletico Madrid in the 2011 summer transfer window but struggled in his first two seasons under Sir Alex Ferguson.
However, the Spanish goalkeeper improved dramatically in the 2012-13 season to help Manchester United win their final Premier League crown under their legendary manager.
