Manchester United should break the bank to sign Gareth Bale if the Real Madrid star can guarantee his fitness, according to Craig Burley.
The Wales international endured a tough fourth season at The Bernabeu that was spent largely on the sidelines with a series of injury problems.
Bale, though, returned to make a second-half appearance in Real Madrid’s 4-1 win against Serie A giants Juventus in the Champions League final in Wales back in June.
The 27-year-old has regularly been linked with a move back to the Premier League and Manchester United has been reported as a potential destination for the forward.
Indeed, the Red Devils set a new world transfer record last summer when Manchester United completed an £89m deal to re-sign Paul Pogba from Juventus.
Former Chelsea defender Burley admitted that he would break the bank to sign Bale if the Welshman could assure Manchester United that his injury issues are a thing of the past.
“If I knew he wouldn’t have injury problems, I’d break the bank for him,” Burley told ESPN FC.
Manchester United have signed Sweden international Victor Lindelof in a £30.7m deal from Portuguese champions Benfica this summer.
The 20-time English champions agreed a £75m fee to sign Everton striker Romelu Lukaku at the weekend.
The Red Devils won the EFL Cup and the Europa League in their first season under Mourinho but finished in sixth place in the Premier League.
