Gary Neville: Man United signing made some poor mistakes
The Manchester United legend is critical of Victor Lindelof's performance in a 2-1 loss at Huddersfield Town
Gary Neville was critical of Victor Lindelof’s performance in Manchester United’s 2-1 loss to Huddersfield Town at John Smith Stadium.
The Red Devils made the trip to Huddersfield looking to extend their unbeaten run to nine games in the Premier League following a brilliant start to the season.
However, Manchester United slumped to their first defeat of the top-flight campaign following goals from Aaron Mooy and Laurent Depoitre in the first half.
Lindelof came off the bench to make his second Premier League appearance after England international Phil Jones suffered an injury setback in the 23rd minute.
The summer signing misjudged a long ball to allow Depoitre to extend Huddersfield’s lead in the 33rd minute.
The Sweden international has acquitted himself well in the Champions League but made a number of mistakes during pre-season to raise concerns about the 23-year-old.
Former Manchester United defender Neville admitted Lindelof made some poor errors during the Premier League clash, but added the centre-half wasn’t alone in his below-par performance level.
“It was a big shock and bad goals to concede. Lindelof made a couple of poor mistakes,” Neville told Sky Sports.
“I think if the other team does something brilliant, you can recover from it but you don’t give yourself a chance if you’re making poor mistakes.
“When your goalkeeper, defenders are making poor mistakes, the anxiety runs not only into the team but into the crowd.”
Manchester United are in second place but five points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City.
The Red Devils signed Lindelof, Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic and Everton striker Romelu Lukaku.
