Garth Crooks has criticised Jose Mourinho for parking the bus in Manchester United’s goalless draw at Liverpool on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Devils scored 21 goals and kept six clean sheet in their opening seven Premier League games of the 2017-18 season to help Manchester United collect 19 points from their opening seven games.

Indeed, summer signing Romelu Lukaku netted seven times in seven games in the English top flight to make a brilliant start to his Old Trafford career following his £75m move from Everton in the summer.

Manchester United adopted a conservative and negative approach for their trip to Merseyside as the Red Devils showed little adventure despite coming up against Liverpool’s leaky defence.

David De Gea was Manchester United’s best player as the Spain international produced a world-class save to deny Cameroon defender Joel Matip.

Mourinho regularly criticised Chelsea’s opponents for “parking the bus” during his two spells in charge at Stamford Bridge.

Former Spurs legend Crooks admitted that he is infuriated with the Manchester United boss given his negative approach to the Premier League clash at Anfield last weekend.

“I don’t know how Mourinho has the nerve,” Crooks told BBC Sport.

“I remember him slamming former West Ham manager Sam Allardyce for “parking the bus” having seen the Hammers produce a brilliant display at Stamford Bridge some years ago.

“He has also used the term to describe other performances by those who insist on containing the opposition and have refused to play an open game against his teams.

“So forgive my annoyance when Mourinho adopts the same tactics to save his own behind on occasions.”

Manchester United are looking to win their first Premier League title since 2013.

The Red Devils signed three players in the summer transfer window.
