Martin Keown replies when asked about Mesut Ozil joining Man United
The Arsenal legend believes the Gunners should consider selling the Germany international in the next transfer window
Martin Keown admits he would allow Mesut Ozil to move to Manchester United if the Arsenal midfielder is pushing for a move to Old Trafford.
The Germany international’s future has been a source of relentless speculation after the Arsenal star opted against signing a new contract extension with the north London club.
Ozil has entered the final 12 months of his current Arsenal deal to prompt talk of a potential move to their bitter rivals Manchester United or Serie A giants Inter Milan in January.
The World Cup winner worked under current Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho during his three-season stint at Real Madrid before completing a £42.5m move to Arsenal in 2013.
Ozil was criticised for his performance in a 4-0 loss at Liverpool back in August and the German midfielder has only started one of Arsenal’s last six games.
Asked about the prospect of Ozil moving to Manchester United, Keown told Arsene Wenger to consider offloading the underperforming World Cup winner in the next transfer window.
“Arsenal cannot afford to lose both players at the same time,” Keown told the Daily Mail.
“The draw at Chelsea demonstrates that there is life after Ozil. If he is not making himself available for selection, then let him go.”
Ozil has won three FA Cup in the past four seasons with Arsenal but the Germany international hasn’t managed to transform the north London outfit into title challengers.
The 28-year-old has scored 32 times in 166 games in all competitions.
