Ian Wright: Why I’m jealous of Man United signing
The Arsenal legend admits he is envious Manchester United signed Nemanja Matic from Chelsea
Ian Wright has admitted that he is jealous as an Arsenal fan of Manchester United signing Nemanja Matic.
The Red Devils managed to pull off one of the best deals of the summer transfer window after Manchester United signed Matic in a £40m deal from Premier League champions Chelsea.
The Serbia international worked under Jose Mourinho for two-and-a-half seasons before the Portugues coach left Stamford Bridge in December 2015.
Matic won the Premier League twice during his Chelsea career with Mourinho and Antonio Conte but is still waiting to get his hands on the Champions League crown.
The 29-year-old has wasted no time having a positive impact at Old Trafford following a man of the match performance in his debut against West Ham.
Arsenal, on the other hand, have already conceded eight times in three games, including a humiliating 4-0 loss to title rivals Liverpool earlier this month.
And Gunners legend Wright admitted that he was disappointed to see Manchester United sign a player capable of having an immediate impact.
“It comes down to pure jealousy,” Wright told BBC Radio 5 Live. “They got a player that they’ve pinpointed to do the job.
“He has come in and we’re seeing other players benefitting from that one signing. I’m not sure Arsenal can do that.”
Arsenal spent a club record £52m fee on Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette in the summer transfer window.
The Gunners also signed Bosnia defender Sead Kolasinac in a free transfer from Schalke 04.
