Manchester United are clear to sign James Rodriguez from Real Madrid this summer after AC Milan pulled out of the race for his signature, according to reports in Spain.

Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, as quoted by the Sun, is reporting that the Italian giants have ended their interest in signing the 25-year-old Colombia international.

The same report claims that AC Milan were not interested in paying the £50m quoted by Real Madrid for Rodriguez, and that could hand Manchester United a significant boost.

The story also states that both Chelsea and Arsenal have been linked with Rodriguez this summer.

According to the report, Rodriguez’s agent Jorge Mendes is widely expected to get the midfielder a move away from Real Madrid this summer after he struggled to hold down a starting spot in the team last term.

Manchester United are thought to be on the lookout for a number of new signings this summer, but the Red Devils have so far only confirmed the arrival of defender Victor Lindelof from Benfica.
