Paul Merson: Why Man United completed the best summer transfer business
The Arsenal legend praises Manchester United for completing the best transfer business this summer

Paul Merson has hailed Manchester United as the clear winners in the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils were inactive on Thursday’s transfer deadline day as Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur all made late signings to improve their squads for the 2017-18 campaign.
Even Arsenal were close to signing AS Monaco star Thomas Lemar in a club-record £92m deal but the France international is thought to have turned down the chance to move to the north London side.
Manchester United completed their summer transfer business last month following Nemanja Matic’s £40m move to the Red Devils from defending champions Chelsea.
The 20-time English champions signed Benfica defender Victor Lindelof in a £30.7m deal to improve his defensive problems after a crisis at the back last term.
Manchester United managed to hijack Chelsea’s deal for Romelu Lukaku after the Belgium international completed a £75m deal from Everton back in July.
Former Arsenal midfielder Merson praised Manchester United for completing the best transfer business this summer.
“Man United did the best transfer business,” Merson told Sky Sports News on Friday morning.
“I say that because they went and got Matic and Lukaku. They just look like a completely different team. They’re playing with pace, Pogba is scoring goals, Mkhitaryan is making chances for people…”
Manchester United have beaten West Ham, Swansea City and Leicester City in their opening three Premier League games of the 2017-18 season.
The Red Devils are sitting two points clear of their closest title rivals Liverpool in the table.
