The Manchester United legend believes Paul Pogba's absence has impacted the style of play at Old Trafford
Rio Ferdinand believes Manchester United have lacked fluidity since losing Paul Pogba to injury.
The Red Devils midfielder suffered a hamstring problem during Manchester United’s 3-0 victory over Basel in the Champions League at Old Trafford last month.
Pogba was handed the captain’s armband for the European clash but had to come off to be replaced by Marouane Fellaini.
The 24-year-old had made a brilliant start to the season after the versatile midfielder scored two goals and made two assists in Manchester United’s opening four Premier League games.
The club-record signing helped Manchester United to ease to resounding 4-0 victories over West Ham United and Swansea City, before a 2-0 win against Leicester City and a 2-2 stalemate with Stoke.
Manchester United have only managed to score three goals in their last four games in all competitions.
Former Red Devils defender Ferdinand believes Pogba’s absence has affected Manchester United’s ability to turn on the style in recent weeks in the Premier League.
“Pogba’s injury has been a big reason the form has gone off,” Ferdinand told BT Sport.
“The fluidity of the team is not the same as it was at the start of the season without Pogba.”
Pogba moved to Manchester United in an £89m deal from Serie A giants Juventus in the 2016 summer transfer window.
The Red Devils will make the trip to defending Premier League champions Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.
