John Hartson makes Juventus claim about key Man United player
The former Arsenal striker believes Paul Pogba is starting to produce his best form in a Manchester United shirt
John Hartson believes Paul Pogba is starting to produce his Juventus form in a Manchester United shirt.
The Red Devils signed the France international in a then world-record £89m deal from the Serie A champions last summer following the appointment of Jose Mourinho.
Pogba scored eight goals and made 12 assists during his final season in the Italian top flight to win his third Serie A title following a move from Manchester United in 2012.
The versatile midfielder struggle to produce his Serie A form during his first campaign back at Old Trafford to prompt criticism of Manchester United’s club-record signing.
Pogba ended up with a return of five goals and four assists in the Premier League last term as Manchester United ended up in sixth place in the table.
However, the 24-year-old has scored two times in 4-0 victories over West Ham United and Swansea City to start the 2017-18 season with a flurry.
Former Arsenal and Celtic striker Hartson believes Pogba is starting to unearth his best form in a Manchester United shirt to realise his £89m transfer fee.
“Matic is magnificent,” Hartson told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“He will sit and be disciplined in front of that back four. It will allow Pogba to go and express himself.
“He can get forward and express himself [at Swansea]. It was like the Pogba we saw at Juventus.”
Manchester United won the EFL Cup and the Europa League in Pogba’s first season back at Old Trafford.
The France star scored Manchester United’s opening goal in a 2-0 victory over Ajax in the Europa League final.
