Man United signing can beat Cristiano Ronaldo’s record, claims ex-defender
Ex-Man United defender Mikael Silvestre believes Romelu Lukaku can beat Cristiano Ronaldo's Premier League goal record

Romelu Lukaku can beat Cristiano Ronaldo’s Premier League scoring record and net more than 34 goals in Manchester United’s title-winning campaign, Mikael Silvestre has claimed.
Manchester United managed to beat Premier League champions Chelsea to the signing of Lukaku in a £75m deal from Everton in the summer transfer window.
Lukaku has hit the ground running with seven goals in seven games in the Premier League ahead of this weekend’s trip to Liverpool.
The 24-year-old has dispelled concerns about his ability to thrive at a top club with three goals in two fixtures in the Champions League.
Ronaldo famously scored 34 goals in Manchester United’s title triumph in 2007-08 in his penultimate season at Old Trafford.
And the Manchester United legend’s former team-mate Silvestre believes Lukaku is on course to surpass Ronaldo’s record.
“Lukaku can beat Ronaldo’s scoring record in season one,” said Silvestre, speaking exclusively to 888sport.
“It would be a big statement, personally for Romelu and the team as well. It would mean a lot and obviously mean they are in the race for the title. We are just in October and a lot can happen until the end but he can carry on.”
Of course, Lukaku could face competition from Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane to be the first striker to beat Ronaldo’s record.
Kane netted 29 times in 31 games last season and has netted six goals in seven games in the Premier League so far.
