Louis Saha has backed Manchester United’s decision to re-sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the summer transfer window.

The 35-year-old was originally brought to Manchester United in a free transfer from Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain in the 2016 summer transfer window.

Ibrahimovic scored 28 goals in all competitions to help Manchester United to win the EFL Cup and the Europa League in Mourinho’s first season in charge at Old Trafford.

The former Sweden international scored 17 goals in 28 games in the Premier League before he picked up a season-ending injury in the Europa League quarter-final in April.

Manchester United released Ibrahimovic at the end of his one-year contract back in June but the experienced centre-forward continued his rehabilitation from a knee problem at Carrington training ground.

The Red Devils re-signed Ibrahimovic last month to bolster their attacking options despite handing new signing Romelu Lukaku the number nine shirt worn by the Swedish legend last term.

Former Manchester United striker Saha is pleased to see Ibrahimovic back in the Old Trafford ranks for the 2017-18 campaign as the Red Devils compete on four different fronts again.

“It’s a great signing. He has proved to everybody that he is an amazing player,” Saha told

“He didn’t even need to prove it, but he has clearly maintained his quality and at the same time he has shown the younger players at United, Paris Saint-Germain and wherever he’s been that he is a professional player. They all speak very highly of him because he works hard.

“He’s not just a ‘big mouth’, he speaks the truth. He says he is the king and I respect that because he always delivers,” Saha told BetStars.

“Players know that those kind of players [like Zlatan] have produced those performances over the season, it is because they work hard, so he’s a great example to the younger players.”

Manchester United have won three of their opening four Premier League games to secure top spot in the table.
