Steve McManaman believes that Manchester City have a stronger squad than Manchester United this season, despite the Red Devils’ blistering start to the new campaign.

Manchester United continued their fine form under new boss Jose Mourinho on Saturday when they claimed a thumping 4-0 victory over Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium.

That result followed their opening-weekend win over West Ham United at Old Trafford by the same scoreline, with Manchester United top of the Premier League table on goal difference after two games.

Their strong start to the season has inevitably fuelled talk of the Red Devils winning the Premier League title this season as Mourinho looks to steer them to top-flight glory in his second campaign in charge.

However, despite the Red Devils’ blistering form, former Liverpool star McManaman believes that Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side are still the favourites to win the title this season because of their squad depth.

Speaking on Premier League Tonight on BT Sport on Saturday, McManaman said: “We all picked Manchester City to win the league this season.

“I personally feel that Manchester City have got a better squad. Whether they can fight as hard as United and grind results out, we’ll wait and see.

“But I think City have got the best squad. They’re more equipped than United.”

Manchester United are now looking to make it three wins from three in the Premier League by taking on Leicester City at Old Trafford on Saturday evening.

The Red Devils have not won the title since Sir Alex Ferguson stepped down at the end of the 2012-13 season.
