Manchester United are hoping to conclude a deal to sign Nemanja Matic from Chelsea in the coming days, according to reports.
ESPN is reporting that the Red Devils are increasingly confident of completing a deal to sign the Serbia international from the west London side as he prepares to reunite with former manager Jose Mourinho.
The same report claims that Matic has now emerged as Mourinho’s top target this summer as the Portuguese coach looks for a midfielder to partner Paul Pogba in the long-term at Old Trafford.
The move is expected to go through as Chelsea are thought to be on the verge of completing a deal to sign Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko this week, deeming Matic to be somewhat surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.
Matic played a key role in helping Chelsea to win the Premier League title and EFL Cup back in 2014-15 during Mourinho’s second stint at the club.
The same story says that with the summer transfer window set to officially open on 1 July, Premier League clubs are expected to accelerate their business.
Manchester United have been linked with a host of players in recent weeks but have so far only signed defender Victor Lindelof from Benfica.
