Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has backed Anthony Martial to “improve” his Manchester United team following his return from injury.

The France international started his first game since August on Thursday night when he netted a penalty to help the Red Devils claim a 1-0 victory over Partizan Belgrade.

Martial will now be expecting to start or at least feature when Manchester United return to Premier League action with a trip to Norwich City on Sunday afternoon.

Thursday night’s triumph marked the end of an 11-game winless run for the Red Devils – and Solskjaer seems to be confident that the return of Martial will offer his side a much-needed boost ahead of their trip to Carrow Road.

Speaking at a news conference at Carrington on Friday morning, Solskjaer said: “We’ve not created as many as we’d like, we’ve not scored as many as we’d like.

“But now Anthony is back, he got a goal on Thursday and I’m sure you will see us improve with him in the team because he does give us something different.”

Paul Pogba, Luke Shaw, Diogo Dalot, Nemanja Matic and Axel Tuanzebe are all out injured for the Red Devils.

Manchester United are currently in 14th place in the Premier League table and just two points off the relegation zone.

The Red Devils are aiming to try and break back into the top four this season after they finished in sixth place in the table and without a trophy last term.

They will return to League Cup action on Wednesday night when they travel to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea FC in the fourth round.
