Paul Merson predicts where Man United are going to finish
Paul Merson feels Man United have a good chance of finishing in the top four this season
Paul Merson is tipping Manchester United to push for a top-four finish in the Premier League this season.
The Red Devils have made a brilliant start to life under interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after he was brought in as Jose Mourinho’s replacement last month.
Manchester United are currently in sixth place in the Premier League table and level on points with fourth-placed Arsenal as they bid to try and secure Champions League qualification.
Solskjaer notched up his seventh win as Manchester United boss on Saturday as the Red Devils claimed a 2-1 win over Brighton at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils are now only three points behind fourth-placed Chelsea FC, and Merson feels that they are capable of breaking into the top four this season.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Merson said: “They’ll be looking to chase Chelsea and now Tottenham down after the Harry Kane injury. There might be two spaces up for grabs now rather than one.
“They’ve had some easy games and a good win at Tottenham but there are hard games around the corner.
“Solskjaer will be challenging his players to get that fourth spot. Clubs like Manchester United need to be in the Champions League.
“The only way finishing in the top four can feel like an amazing achievement for one of the top six is when you’ve been down in sixth, seventh place all season.
“Defensively they are not good enough. I dread to think what the score will be against PSG. They need defenders, if it weren’t for bad finishing by Tottenham then it could have been any score.”
Manchester United are set to return to FA Cup action on Friday night when they travel to Arsenal in their fourth-round tie.
They will then take on Burnley in their next Premier League game at the end of the month.
The Red Devils failed to win a trophy under Mourinho last season as they finished second in the Premier League.
