Gary Neville has admitted that Paul Pogba will be a “big miss” for Manchester United during his lay-off with a hamstring injury.

The French midfielder limped out for the Red Devils in the first half of their 3-0 win over Basel in the Champions League earlier this month and the problem is expected to keep him out of action for a number of weeks.

Pogba has made a strong start to the season along with his Manchester United team-mates, with the Red Devils currently joint top of the Premier League table heading into this weekend’s round of games.

However, although Neville admits that Pogba’s absence will be a blow, he feels that Manchester United do have the quality in midfield to be able to cope with his absence.

Neville told Sky Sports News: “He’s a big miss. You talk about characters and personality on the pitch, Pogba always wants the ball and always believes in himself. Even if it’s not going well for him he’ll try the next pass.

“He has taken some stick over the last 12 months in terms of his price tag and the expectation of what people believe he should be delivering.

“He’ll probably admit himself that last season he fell below his standards but he started off this season brilliantly.

“He is a loss but Marouane Fellaini has come in, and United have got Ander Herrera, Michael Carrick.

“You’re going to lose players during the season, you’ve got to overcome it. United will have to cope with that.”

Manchester United return to Premier League action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to the bet365 Stadium to take on Stoke City.

The Red Devils are currently joint top of the Premier League table with Manchester City, after having won four of their opening five Premier League games.

Manchester United have not won the Premier League title since Sir Alex Ferguson’s final campaign in charge in the 2012-13 season.
