Hugo Lloris has issued his backing for Paul Pogba following the Manchester United midfielder’s recent struggles.

The 25-year-old midfielder has struggled for both form and fitness at Old Trafford this season under Jose Mourinho and he has found himself in and out of the starting line-up for the Red Devils.

Pogba and Alexis Sanchez were both dropped to the bench for Manchester United’s 2-0 FA Cup win over Brighton and Hove Albion at Old Trafford last weekend.

The midfielder has still been called up for international duty with France despite his struggles for form with Manchester United in recent weeks.

Tottenham and France goalkeeper Lloris is backing Pogba to rediscover his best form in the coming weeks and months as the national team prepare for this summer’s World Cup in Russia.

Speaking at a news conference on Thursday, Lloris said: “Paul stays a strong player in our team, he is one of our leaders.

“This season is a little bit complicated but he was injured so that could explain why he was not consistent all the time.

“But he already proved with Manchester or France that he is one of the best players in the world if he is at 100 per cent. Now he is more mature.

“He knows his place, his responsibilities. I have no doubt that he will be ready for this huge competition and show his best side.”

Pogba will be hoping to feature for Manchester United when the Red Devils return to Premier League action after the international break, with a home clash against Swansea City.

The Red Devils will take on Lloris’ Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley next month as they look to try and end Mourinho’s second season in charge with a trophy.
