Steven Gerrard believes that Paul Pogba is poised to thrive in the Manchester United team this season because of the Red Devils’ summer signings.

The French midfielder failed to really live up to his price-tag last season after his world-record transfer from Juventus, although he was a regular fixture in the first team at Old Trafford.

Pogba has made a strong start to the new campaign and scored his second goal of the season in the 4-0 thrashing of Swansea City on Saturday afternoon.

And former Liverpool star Gerrard believes that it is only a matter of time before Pogba start to show what he is really capable of in midfield for the Red Devils.

Speaking on Premier League Tonight on BT Sport on Saturday, Gerrard said: “I think we’ve seen flashes.

“We’ve all mentioned how he needs to be more consistent.

“What I will say is that the likes of Nemanja Matic and Romelu Lukaku will complement his game and will lift him. He will be able to find that consistency much easier than last year.”

Manchester United are now preparing for their Premier League clash against Leicester City at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Devils are looking to challenge for the title this season after having failed to lift the trophy since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement back in 2013.

Manchester United did win the Europa League and EFL Cup in Mourinho’s first campaign in charge at the club last term, however.
