Paul Scholes believes that Manchester United will need to sign a central midfielder and a striker in the forthcoming transfer windows.

The Red Devils have made something of a mixed start to the season in what is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first full season in charge at Old Trafford.

Manchester United have won two of their opening five Premier League games this term as they bid to try and break back into the top four this season.

Solskjaer’s side were relatively active in the summer transfer window as they brought in three new signings in the shape of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire and Daniel James.

Over the next few weeks, attentions will gradually start turning towards the January transfer window and the potential signings Manchester United could make.

And former Manchester United star Scholes feels that the Red Devils should consider strengthening in midfield and attack next year.

Asked if he feels that Manchester United need to strengthen in midfield, Scholes told BBC Radio 5 Live: “Yeah, I think that’s been important for a while.

“I think they need a player who can control a game. Michael Carrick was magnificent at doing that.

“They have some talented midfield players in there now. I think [Scott] McTominay has done really well this season.

“And Pogba we all know on his day can be sensational and probably one of the best in the world in that position, but we just need to see it more often, we need to make sure he wants to stay at the club to get that out of him.

“But I think Ole will be looking, he’ll be trying. ‘I’d be more worried about the centre-forward position, I know we spoke about Mason Greenwood coming through.

“We have Marcus and Martial – are they centre-forwards or are they wingers? We’re not quite sure.

“I always think United, going back to when they were challenging for titles, they had four brilliant centre-forwards and I think that’s something that’s missing at this minute in time.”

Manchester United are currently preparing for their trip to West Ham United in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

The Red Devils are aiming to try and break back into the top for this term and secure qualification for next season’s Champions League under Solskjaer.
