Rio Ferdinand has talked up Paul Pogba’s importance to Manchester United this season.
The French midfielder has been a key cog in the Manchester United midfield this term despite missing two months of the campaign due to a hamstring injury.
Manchester United look much more like a potent attacking force this season whenever Pogba is playing – but the Red Devils will have to make do without him on Sunday against Manchester City.
The midfielder was sent off in the 3-1 win over Arsenal last weekend and will miss the crunch Manchester derby clash at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
And former Manchester United defender Ferdinand believes it is clear that the Red Devils struggle to create as many chances when Pogba isn’t playing.
Speaking to BT Sport on Tuesday night, Ferdinand said of Pogba” “This season in the [Manchester United] chances created department, you see it’s almost double when he’s playing compared to when he’s not there.
“The influence is remarkable when he plays. He’s a guy who’s got the personality for the responsibility he’s been given, with a huge price-tag.
“I think he’s someone who wants that pressure.”
Manchester United head into Sunday’s game knowing that a win would move them to within five points of the Premier League leaders.
However, a victory for Pep Guardiola’s side would leave Manchester United 11 points behind their bitter local rivals in the race for the title.
Manchester United finished sixth in the Premier League last season but won the Europa League to qualify for the Champions League.
