Man United starlet tipped to set the world alight by team-mate
Ashley Young is tipping Marcus Rashford to have a strong World Cup for England in Russia
Ashley Young is tipping Marcus Rashford to shine on the biggest stage for England at the World Cup this summer.
The 20-year-old striker has earned plenty of new admirers since breaking onto the scene at Manchester United in recent seasons, although his playing time at Old Trafford was somewhat limited this season.
The attacker only started 20 of Manchester United’s 38 Premier League games, and he scored seven goals and made five assists in total for Jose Mourinho’s men in the top flight.
He also netted three times in the Champions League for Mourinho’s men, and has been included in Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad for this summer’s tournament in Russia.
And his Manchester United team-mate Young is expecting to see big things from the attacker this summer as he bids to try and help England go deep into the tournament.
Young is quoted as saying by Sky Sports: “I’ve said it since I saw him in the youth team, he has a massive future ahead of him. He’s a fantastic player and if he keeps on going the way he is he can set the world alight.
“The World Cup can be a stage for him to show everyone just how far he has come since he made his debut.
“If you look at the goals Rasford scored on how many different debuts – that just shows in itself that he steps up for the big games.
“He can produce. He’s been fantastic for us at Manchester United and he will definitely be a major player for us at the World Cup.”
Manchester United ended the season without a trophy as Mourinho’s men finished as runners-up to Manchester City in the Premier League, but still 19 points behind the champions.
The Red Devils were beaten by Chelsea FC in the FA Cup final at Wembley earlier this month as they missed the chance to end the campaign with some silverware.
