Rio Ferdinand sets challenge for summer Man United signing
Rio Ferdinand wants to see Victor Lindelof perform for Manchester United on a consistent basis

Rio Ferdinand has told Victor Lindelof that he must now build on his recent solid performances for Manchester United and prove he can do it on a consistent basis.
The Swedish defender was Manchester United’s first signing of the summer transfer window as Jose Mourinho moved quickly to bolster his rearguard options by bringing him in from Benfica.
The defender made something of a shaky start to his career at Old Trafford and he failed to hold down a regular spot in the first team at the club.
However, there has been a clear improvement from Lindelof in recent weeks and he earned widespread praise for his strong performance in the 3-1 win over Arsenal at The Emirates last weekend.
Former Manchester United star Ferdinand has been impressed by what he has seen from Lindelof in recent weeks – but he now wants to see him perform consistently.
Speaking to BT Sport on Tuesday night, Ferdinand said: “He had a shaky start coming to Manchester United.
“He’s needed this last couple of games. There’s been a marked improvement in his performances and the confidence seems to be coming back into his game.
“There’s a player in there, it’s just we haven’t been able to see it on a consistent basis.”
Manchester United return to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon with their crunch derby showdown against Manchester City at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils head into the game knowing that a victory would move them to within five points of Pep Guardiola’s men heading into the hectic festive period in the Premier League.
