Dimitar Berbatov urges Romelu Lukaku to stay at Man United and fight for his place
Romelu Lukaku has been urged to stay at Manchester United and fight for his place in the team by Dimitar Berbatov.
The Belgian striker’s future has been a source of speculation this summer after he fell down the pecking order at Old Trafford under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last term.
Lukaku has been strongly linked with a move to Inter Milan this summer, but as things stand, the striker remains as a Manchester United player as no move has yet materialised.
It remains to be seen whether Lukaku will stay at Manchester United for the new campaign or move away from Old Trafford.
But former Manchester United striker Berbatov seems to think that the forward would be better off committing his future to the club.
Speaking in an interview quoted by Metro, Berbatov said: “I think he (Romelu Lukaku) should stay, I like him and I don’t agree with all the criticism he gets.
“He has some areas he needs to work, like every player, but his team-mates need to help him as well.
“For example, if I’m a midfield player, and I play with him, I should know how to pass him the ball, when to pass him the ball, which foot to pass him the ball.
“I think Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is the good coach for him, because if (Romelu) Lukaku needed to ask something (to) the coach, he can go ask him.
“Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was a great striker so if you need striker advice, you should go to him.”
Lukaku scored 12 goals in 32 Premier League games for Manchester United last season as they finished sixth in the table.
Manchester United have signed two players so far in the summer transfer window after wrapping up deals for Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
The Red Devils will kick off their Premier League campaign with a home clash against Chelsea FC at Old Trafford on 11 August.
