Thierry Henry has warned Romelu Lukaku that he has plenty of work to do despite making an encouraging start to his Manchester United career.

The Belgian striker scored twice to help fire Manchester United to a 4-0 victory over West Ham United at Old Trafford on Sunday as he made his Premier League debut for the Red Devils.

Lukaku is likely to attract much attention this season following his £75m transfer to Old Trafford from Everton this summer.

However, Manchester United fans are likely to be delighted by Lukaku’s contribution in the Red Devils’ opening Premier League game of the season last weekend.

But that did not stop Arsenal legend Henry, who coaches Lukaku as part of his role with the Belgian national team, from picking out some key things he needs to improve.

Speaking during Sky Sports‘ coverage of Sunday’s game, Henry said: “This is something he has to work on because that was at 2-0 and that ball nearly went in [for West Ham to pull one back].

“This is the thing he has to work on – possession lost – 18 [times Lukaku lost the ball]. That’s a tiny bit too much.”

Henry also encouraged Lukaku to burst forwards into the box more often. He added: “You have to break your leg to get in the box- you are a goal-scorer! You have to. He didn’t go and he could have been there waiting for the ball.”

Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial both scored for Manchester United on an encouraging start to the season for Jose Mourinho’s men, to wrap up a victory which lifted them to the top of the Premier League table.
