Romelu Lukaku has insisted that he is not worried about proving himself as capable of delivering for Manchester United in the big games.

The Belgian forward has made a strong start to life at Manchester United since his move to Old Trafford from Everton back in July, scoring seven goals in eight Premier League games.

However, the 24-year-old drew a blank for the Red Devils in their goalless draw with Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday as he struggled to have much of an effect on the game.

Lukaku will be hoping to prove his critics wrong and help to fire Manchester United to multiple trophies this season.

And the striker insists that he is not paying any attention to his detractors.

Lukaku told Sky Sports after Saturday’s draw at Anfield: “I know expectations are really high but that is something I relish.

“When I was at Everton we had a different mindset going into games. Sometimes it was difficult against some teams when you play not to win and you don’t really create chances.

“Now I am in a team who want to win against big teams so I think the situation will change.”

The striker will be expecting to feature for Manchester United when the Red Devils return to Champions League action on Wednesday night with a trip to Portugal to take on Benfica.

The Red Devils have been in impressive form in the Champions League so far this season, winning both of their opening group games against Basel and CSKA Moscow.

Manchester United will then return to Premier League action this weekend with a trip to Huddersfield.
