Paul Scholes explains why he thinks Man United can win the Premier League title this season
Paul Scholes is convinced that Manchester United have what it takes to win the Premier League this season – despite Manchester City’s flying start.
The Red Devils have been in good form in what is Jose Mourinho’s second campaign in charge at the club but Manchester City’s stunning displays has meant that they already find themselves eight points behind Pep Guardiola’s men after 15 games.
Manchester United do have the chance to try and close the gap to Manchester City down to five points when they host their bitter local rivals in Sunday’s crunch derby showdown at Old Trafford.
However, former midfielder Scholes has been generally encouraged by what he has seen from the Red Devils so far this season and is confident that they still have what it takes to win the title.
Asked if Manchester United can pip Manchester City to the title, Scholes told BT Sport: “You’d like to think so.
“I think they’ve shown over the last couple of weeks that they can compete with City.
“City, we know at this minute, are on a different level. I think United are in good form from these last two or three games.
“They’re scoring goals and look dangerous.”
Manchester United have not won the Premier League title since Sir Alex Ferguson’s final campaign in charge at Old Trafford in the 2012-13 season.
The Red Devils ended up in sixth place in the Premier League table last season but they did win both the Europa League and League Cup in Mourinho’s first campaign in charge at Old Trafford.
