Jose Mourinho names three players who shined in Man United’s 1-0 win at Burnley
Jose Mourinho was particularly pleased by three players' displays for Man United against Burnley on Saturday
Jose Mourinho singled out Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Marouane Fellaini for special praise following their roles in helping Manchester United to claim a 1-0 win over Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday.
The Red Devils made it back to back wins in the top flight and kept to within 12 points of Manchester City at the top of the table as Mourinho’s men look to try and keep pace with their local rivals.
After a goalless first half at Turf Moor, Anthony Martial scored the only goal of the game in the 55th minute to hand Mourinho’s side all three points.
However, Mourinho was particularly thrilled by Smalling, Jones, and Fellaini’s performances at Turf Moor as Manchester United notched up another Premier League win.
Speaking at his post-match news conference at Turf Moor, Mourinho said: “We look at the team and we can say [Chris] Smalling and [Phil] Jones were giants – yes, they were – but the team was very good.
“I think [Marouane] Fellaini was fundamental in the final 20 minutes for us so I thank him for that.
“Sometimes players on the bench can get frustrated and when they come on, it doesn’t bring the best out of them but it doesn’t happen in my team – the players who come off the bench come to help.”
The win left Manchester United in second place in the Premier League table as they now switch their focus back to FA Cup affairs and their fourth-round tie with Yeovil on Friday night.
The Red Devils have not won the Premier League title since their final triumph under Sir Alex Ferguson back in 2013 and they finished in sixth place last season under Mourinho.
