Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Man United need a player like Bryan Robson in their team
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted that his Manchester United team needs a leader like Bryan Robson.
The Norwegian is currently preparing for his first full season in charge at Old Trafford after having been appointed as the club’s permanent new manager back in March.
Solskjaer was initially brought in to replace Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford back in December 2018 and was handed the job on a permanent basis after impressing during his first few months in charge.
Manchester United have made two new signings so far this summer, after concluding deals for Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James.
The Red Devils continue to be linked with a number of other players with less than a month left of the English transfer window.
Now, Solskjaer has admitted that his team is crying out for a leader in the shape of someone like Robson as he turns towards his first full campaign in charge at Old Trafford.
Speaking in an interview quoted by the Daily Mirror, Solskjaer said: “I never had the honour of playing with Robbo, but we need a player like him in the team.
“We’re waiting for the young ones to come through, because we’ve got so many exciting players and I’m sure we’ll see the best of them in the years to come.
“There are some experienced ones as well that still have a few years left in them. We can get back to the level we were, definitely.
“We need to win again. We’re on the way to building a new squad. We’ve got new staff in, coaching staff.
“I believe so much in this club and this project. To be manager of this club is fantastic.”
Manchester United will kick off their Premier League campaign with a home clash against Chelsea FC at Old Trafford on 11 August.
The Red Devils finished in sixth place and without a trophy last term.
