Jose Mourinho thanked Manchester United’s fans for their “amazing” support after the Red Devils slumped to a 3-0 home defeat by Tottenham Hotspur on Monday night.

A goal from Harry Kane and two from Lucas Moura notched up the three points for Mauricio Pochettino’s men as the north London side claimed all three points at Old Trafford.

The defeat was Manchester United’s second in a row and left them with just three points from their opening three Premier League games to pile further pressure on Mourinho and his team.

However, the Red Devils boss felt that his side put in a good performance and thanked the Manchester United fans for their attitude as Manchester United slumped to their second straight defeat this season.

Speaking at his post-match news conference, Mourinho said: “Our fans don’t read papers, or watch television.

“They are more intelligent than that and they answered in an absolutely amazing away. I don’t think it’s normal for a team to lose a game at home and for the supporters to react the way they did. They reacted in relation to what they saw, in relation to what they feel. The supporters are an amazing judge.

“The way they reacted, for me, tells you everything. Normally I am the first one to leave the pitch when my team wins, but my team lost and my players deserved to be in the middle of the pitch with me.

“So I went there for my players. But then, the fans, they had such an amazing reaction to the boys, so I had to thank them on behalf of everyone.”

Manchester United will now look to dust themselves down as they prepare for their next Premier League game – a trip to Burnley on Sunday afternoon.

Mourinho will be hoping to steer the Red Devils back on track as they look to try and challenge for the Premier League title this season.

Manchester United finished in second place and without a trophy last term.
