Steven Gerrard raves about ‘valuable’ Man United star
Steven Gerrard praises Ashley Young for his strong performances for Manchester United this season
Steven Gerrard has heaped praise on Ashley Young following his strong form for Manchester United this season.
The England international has been a strong performer for the Red Devils this term and he has been deployed at left-back, keeping Luke Shaw out of the team with his impressive performances.
Young has been a regular fixture in the team this season and he has clearly won the trust of Jose Mourinho, with the 32-year-old having scored two goals and made three assists in 23 Premier League games this season.
And former England star Gerrard admits that he has been hugely impressed by the way Young has been performing for the Red Devils this season under Mourinho.
Speaking to BT Sport on Tuesday night, Gerrard said: “He’s so valuable to Mourinho because he can play in four or five positions.
“I think give him credit. He’s earned the manager’s trust because he was one you might have thought would have been moved on when Mourinho first came in.
“But he’s worked hard, knuckled down and matured.”
Manchester United will return to FA Cup action on Saturday night with their quarter-final clash against Brighton and Hove Albion at Old Trafford.
Young was unable to prevent Manchester United from slipping to a disappointing 2-1 loss to Sevilla in the last 16 of the Champions League on Wednesday night as they were dumped out of the competition.
Manchester United are currently in second place in the Premier League table with eight games left to play this season.
