Man United could turn to La Liga manager if Pochettino pursuit fails – report
Manchester United are considering a move to sign Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone, according to a report
Manchester United have placed Atletico Madrid’s Diego Simeone on their shortlist of candidates to become their next permanent manager should the Red Devils miss out on Mauricio Pochettino, according to a report in England.
The Daily Mirror is reporting that Manchester United are interested in the former Argentina international as potential manager at Old Trafford.
Simeone has enjoyed great success at Atletico after successfully disrupting FC Barcelona and Real Madrid’s era of dominance in the Spanish top flight.
The same article states that Manchester United have already made contact with Simeone through intermediaries to assess his current situation at los Rojiblancos and the Argentinian’s interest in taking over at Manchester United.
According to the same story, Simeone is currently in negotiations with the La Liga side over a potential contract extension with 18 months left to run on his current deal at Atletico Madrid.
The Daily Mirror adds that Tottenham boss Pochettino remains their first choice but the 20-time English champions are eager to look at other options should Simeone’s former Argentina team-mate prove unwilling to turn his back on Spurs.
Manchester United appointed their former striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as their interim manager last month.
The Red Devils will return to Premier League action on Saturday with a home clash against Brighton at Old Trafford.
