Steve Nicol has urged Manchester United to make a summer transfer swoop to sign Radja Nainggolan from Roma this summer.

The Red Devils have been linked with a host of players in recent weeks as Jose Mourinho gears up for his second season in charge at Old Trafford.

Manchester United officially confirmed their first signing of the summer on Wednesday afternoon when they announced the capture of defender Victor Lindelof on a long-term contract from Benfica.

However, the Red Devils continue to be linked with a host of attacking players, with Alvaro Morata thought to be one of their top targets.

But former Liverpool star Nicol reckons Mourinho should consider making a transfer bid to sign the 29-year-old Nainggolan from Roma this summer.

Speaking to ESPN FC, Nicol said: “Yes, I think he would do well for Manchester United.

“He would make them better but I just don’t see it happening.

“He’s 29 years of age now, if he’s going to go it has to be now.

“But Roma, Roma have got themselves in a good spot to challenge Juventus for the Serie A title at last after six or seven years of Juve steamrolling it.

“I just don’t see this happening, it’s not going to happen.”

“Every summer we’ve been talking about Nainggolan going somewhere, it never seems to happen, Roma offer him more money, he stays

Nainggolan scored 11 goals and made five assists in Serie A last season and has been linked with Chelsea in the past.

Manchester United are likely to be on the lookout for numerous additions this summer as the Red Devils prepare for a return to the Champions League next season.

Mourinho led the Red Devils to Europa League glory in his first season in charge as Manchester United booked their place in the group stage of the Champions League.
